At Harmony Schoolhouse, we are dedicated to sharing the love of Christ by helping cancer patients, survivors and those touched by trauma, find healing through the creative process. Centered around finding relief from the fears and stresses of life's challenges, we share in the joy and peace that comes through creative expression.
From the moment I was diagnosed I knew it wasn't about me. My cancer was for a bigger purpose, something so much bigger than me!
After creating the journal, "My Healing Companion (see below), I became aware that I needed to share the healing and joy of art and creating with others who are going through difficult times. Not just cancer patients, survivors or caregivers, but anyone who is struggling, grieving, or anxious with daily life. Art soothes the mind, body and heart. It soothes the soul. I moved my art studio out of my house and I have opened it up to others. That's Harmony Schoolhouse!
I realize I am not a certified or licensed art therapist, but like everyone else, I hold a PhD in LIFE. At Harmony Schoolhouse I help people through a mixed media process of letting go and working through. It is much like the healing process of letting go of the life known before a diagnosis or life changing event, and working through the difficult times. No matter how you choose to go through your trials, it's a process and you must trust. Healing through art is a process as well, and you have to trust it. You have no idea where your art is taking you, but with the many layers and different techniques, by trusting the process you will know when your art is complete, and it will hold so much meaning for you.
My Healing Companion is an art journal I created after completing my journey through surgery, chemo, and radiation. I hope you enjoy the video of my experiences.
